As a painter, I seek clarity and simplicity. I am inspired by ways in which patterns of light and dark interact to stir an emotional sense of place. I'm initially drawn to a subject when something catches me by surprise, such as transient light, the interplay of abstract shapes, or maybe just a memory from my childhood. Expressive brushstrokes, elegant simplified forms, and the rhythmic quality of the natural world work their way into my paintings, driven by the overarching emotion of the experience. Themes of beauty, fragility, and strength dominate my work.
When I'm not painting en plein air, I work from my Studio/Gallery in the Arts District on South A Street in Santa Rosa.
